What We Took On Our Family Roadtrip
Our family loves summer vacations and for us, vacations mean road trips, usually out east to visit family and friends and to go to the beach.
In years past, we have relied on fast food chains to feed us on route. Trying to make healthy food choices while eating at fast food and chain restaurants can be challenging. Eating clean or organic at these establishments is nearly impossible.
So, in the spirit of healthy eating (and to save a little money) we decided to bring our food with us this road trip.
I hope this list is helpful to you as you plan your summer vacation. Here is what we brought:
Paper products - Paper towels, napkins, paper plates, bowls, cups and utensils - all for convenience sake. I also brought dish soap, a bar cutting board and a knife. (I am not a Pampered Chef consultant but I really like their knives that store in a blade sharpening sleeve. They are great for traveling and picnics. I also like their small bar cutting board.)
Drinks - Water, kefir, a gallon of organic milk and a few juice boxes.
Snacks - Raw almonds and pecans, pretzels, dried cherries, carob chips, whole grain tortilla chips, granola bars and yogurt. Keep carob chips in cooler.
Food - Homemade gazpacho, grilled steak and chicken - prepared the night before we left, boxed cereal, cheese, salsa, avocado, watermelon chunks, bananas, apples, cherries and grapes.
Don't forget the quilt for your roadside picnics - our favorite part of being on a road trip.
Please feel free to share your tips for on-the-road dining.
Happy Travels!
